ESCAPE – EMBRACING THE FREEDOM OF BEAUTY

Forget the whim of the day for a moment. Allow yourself to be titillated by the unexpected and swept along by intriguing beauty, for example the kinetic installation In 20 steps by Studio Drift; a tribute to the human desire to be able to fly. Or by the installation Lightfall, with responsive light and soundscapes by Paul Thursfield and Simon Rycroft for Philips, and the innovative colour research by Maarten Kolk and Guus Kusters for RembrandtLAB.

IN 20 STEPS

Studio Drift created this installation in 2015 for the Venice Biennale, as a tribute to the human desire for flying. 40 thin bars of glass are arranged in pairs and suspended from the ceiling, creating the illusion of hanging in space. An electronic system changes their position, to create up and down movements, forming a kaleidoscope of undulating wings. The moving glass breaks the natural light in the space and reflects it in rays, emphasizing fragility of the movement and of nature itself.

The contemporary pieces in Kazerne’s exhibition ESCAPE have a great and sometimes even lyrical expressiveness that will temporarily entrance you and make you forget about the whim of the day. During your escape you’re embraced by the free haven art has to offer. A free haven void of judgement, void of dogmas and void of fear. It’s time to reflect and get inspired.
