Human, instinctive, a coalition, collective and so on. Again and again, we are able to define what a collection is. The enrichment of the Van Abbemuseum collection with more than 50 works from the Edelkoort Collection culminates in this double exhibition at Van Abbemuseum and Home of Design Kazerne.

The Collection is… a glimpse into an archive full of poetic associations, new insights and perspectives. Art and design gathered in one collection. Lidewij Edelkoort: ‘A revolution for museums to bring these worlds on an even plane.’
The collection is… an exhibition (and catalogue) where design and visual art are shown side by side and engage in a dialogue. With shifting scenarios about the human condition, the current zeitgeist and the social context. It shows how art and design have grown closer to each other and how powerful they can form a bond together. How they even need each other and are no longer even clearly distinguishable from each other.
The enrichment of the collection and the double exhibition mark a historic moment for both the museum and the design field. Annemoon Geurts – founder of Home of Design Kazerne – took the initiative to connect the Van Abbemuseum and Edelkoort to achieve this.
