For the I-Joist cabinet, Steven Banken has preserved the original qualities of the wood as much as possible. He adapted the planks as little as needed, and kept the grains visible – including the knots. The cabinet looks like a pile of wood and can easily be deconstructed, after which the wood can be recycled.

Tannic Acid

Oak contains high concentrations of tannic acid, which turns into dark blue when it is exposed to iron oxide in steel. The design of the Tannic Acid Series emphasizes the exceptional similarity in color of two radically different materials.
