Marie Panken

–The transformation from thoughts text

Does the way we write influence our thinking? Do we teach children to write by hand or switch completely to typing? What would that mean for a child that is on the verge of discovering that those curly lines carry meaning and represent sounds? Marie Panken presents Type Out and The Moving Alphabet, a research into the evolution of language and how the abstract characters of a keyboard are experienced physically. While her hands were getting used to the new, old way of writing on a type writer, this started to influence the way her thoughts could be translated into words.

Marie Panken focuses on language and its development into the digital field. Seeing words as sounds, shapes and movements, she approaches the medium as a constantly evolving invention and as a filter for our thoughts. She researches the transit between analogue and digital and creates objects and installations that turn language into a tangible experience.
