Special Guests

Walter Baets – Wicked Problems Officer at Eindhoven Engine
‘We are trained to simplify complex problems, leading to non-relevant solutions. However, in today’s complex world, problems need deep understanding within their systemic and stakeholder contexts. Major challenges include exponential technologies, an exhausted planet, and an individualistic worldview. Solutions should come from empathizing with those affected, co-creating understanding, and collaborating towards shared solutions. Hence start loving your problem (area), rather than your solution.’

Walter Baets is Professor Emeritus at the University of Cape Town and Wicked Problems Officer at Eindhoven Engine. He is an expert in complexity and the quantum interpretation of innovation and transformation. His career spans seven countries and two continents, with notable roles in academia and strategic consulting. Baets has authored several key publications on business, innovation, and leadership. He is also a photographer and part-time shepherd, practicing the art of ‘being’ in his personal life.

During the event they will share their expertise, vision and engage in a debate about our fast growing city. Moderated by Anne Ligtenberg.

Eindhoven is growing fast and the world is facing huge challenges. What can we envision to ensure an attractive and enduring habitat for ourselves and future generations? Which experiments and prototypes are needed to stay a step ahead? What can we learn from other cities? This is the moment to connect the superpowers of our regional ecosystems and develop a grounded vision for our beloved city.
