Some animals can self-regenerate when losing a body part. But it never grows back identically; it can even undergo genetic mutations. Thibault Dupille was inspired by this phenomenon of so-called regeneration to repair damaged objects. By expanding and twisting each object’s stump with a 3D-printer, unique prostheses are born that suggest biologic growth. As such, Mitosis does not only extend the lifespan of broken items, but also offers an upgrade.
