Future exhibition: New Design by Old Friends

A big thank you! To all designers that have made Kazerne – Home of Design – possible since day one. We are currently still developing our new exhibition that will be on show from Saturday October 20th, and during Dutch Design Week 2018.
Within the theme ‘New Design by Old Friends’ we can already confirm the first participants that will be showing recent work: Joost van Bleiswijk, Léa Mazy, Modular, Ontwerpduo & Cleary Led and Lucas&Lucas hacking Ikea. We are also very proud to host the Dutch premiere of the SOFTWEAR installation by Google and Lidewij Edelkoort, in close collaboration with Kiki van Eijk.

Home of design

At the end of 2018 Kazerne unleashes its full potential as a home for design. With the opening of the renovated Kazerne building the concept will be expanded with 1.000 m2 extra exhibition space, 8 hotel rooms, where you sleep in the midst of the design exhibition, two extra multifunctional spaces, a second fine-dining restaurant and a members club. A unique hospitality concept, made possible with the support of our growing community and many partners.

Google, Edelkoort & van Eijk

Already in 1998 trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort conceived the idea technology blending in our day-to-day analog life. 20 years later she revisits her concept and teams up with Google. This results in the installation SOFTWEAR that investigates how electronic devices could become more tactile and seamlessly integrated to workplaces and homes, through the introduction of elements such as textiles. Dutch artist Kiki van Eijk shaped a series of unique tapestries that ‘weave’ into the SOFTWEAR story. Lidewij Edelkoort previously curated the exhibition OPEN ENDED. Kiki van Eijk shows her work on a regular basis in Kazerne; ever since the first Eat Drink Design pop-up in 2016.

Annemoon Geurts (Founder & Creative Director): “Ever since the first pop-up pilots of Eat Drink Design during Dutch Design Week many design talents and partners recognized the shared interest and added value of an inviting design hub. Without their wisdom, work or wealth Kazerne would still only be my dream. With this exhibition we want to say thank you to everyone who supported the concept in the past 11 years. Thanks to our partners everyone can experience the many meanings of design. And from the end of this year on, even 24/7. At the same time we celebrate the worldwide impact of design and connect this to our region.”

Catching up with old friends

The exhibition is still developing but – as usual – visitors can expect recent works of both established and upcoming design talent in a museum-like presentation through the whole building. Including the restaurant, so visitors can enjoy a drink and a bite between the design. To name a few: Ontwerpduo and Cleary LED are present with a light installation that was developed in Kazerne Lab, Mosa shows a new tiles collection, Joost van Bleiswijk designed the Protopunk outdoor kitchen especially for our courtyard, Aleksandra Gaca presents a new collection of acoustic textiles, Modular brings a new line of lights, and Kazerne Young’s Léa Mazy presents Design Academy Graduation project Fatigue.

During Dutch Design week from October 20-28 you can expect lots of extra activities at Kazerne. Keep an eye on our website, socials or subscribe to our newsletter.
